Artworks that complemented itself by the wearer
In the new space, dominated by a “fantastic machinery” by means of which she makes her jewel-blouses, Selene Giorni offers her unique creations, real works of art that are completed only together with the women who wear them. The magic of this place is transmitted to her works, which wrap those willing to experience.
the thrill of wearing one of her garments.

Vicolo Lavandai 6
20122 – Milan, Italy
The Atelier space in Vicolo Lavandai: a romantic corner inside the old Milan, one of the most visited places by tourists, eager to discover the real “old Milan.” The stable which hosts the rooms, was founded in 1600 and is located beside the “Naviglio Grande” river – one of the great works of Leonardo da Vinci- the spot where the little river named Cavo Rizzolino flows into the dock. The small street is known as “Vicolo Lavandai,” because once it was the spot at which the rich milanese lads had their laundry done by their “valets de chambre” like a real laundry business. Carts drawn by horses used to arrive loaded full with dirty clothes to be cleaned and than return humid, ready to be ironed at the masters house. The woman who had to wash the clothes used a cushion as a prieu.dieu for the knees, and a wooden board-called in milanese “brellin”- set in front of the tub where they would rub the clothes. After the cleaning, they pulled a cord, which locked in to the iron rings still visibly at the back courtyard of the Atelier Selene Giorgi.
When Selene chooses the interiors to host her body of works, she felt the need to meet an artist with the same concept. Giuseppe Amato a new rising talent in the world of interiors, works only with materials already existing in nature conceiving site-specific furniture and architecture. Widely published in I.D. Vogue, Interni Magazine, he had shows together with Ron Arad, Philip Starck, Ross Lovegrove in Milan, Tokyo and New York. During the Italia/Japan year, while representing the italian craftsmen in Tokyo, he met Sori Yanagi and both were a sudden blast. In 2003, together with Yurikiro Ishiyama he opened the Amato-Ishiyama Studio. In 2004 he opened the Richini studio. The series of wooden architecture called “Unexpected homes.” from which the first project called Nautoscopio was presented in scale 1:5 at the fair “Salone del Mobile” in 2008, will be soon a temporary public art project in Palermo. www.giuseppeamatostudio.com
